St. Patrick’s Festival
HISTORY
According to Sir Howard Fergus, in his MAC-commissioned book St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Montserrat – A History, St. Patrick’s Festival, “threatens to overtake Christmas [Carnival} as the leading national extravaganza”.
Organised to commemorate the 1768 massacre of our slave heroes who unsuccessfully attempted to overthrow their masters, the event coincides with St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.
Montserrat has been celebrating St. Patrick’s Festival for 40 years.
